Madisonville, KY – August 27, 2024 – WHAS Crusade for Children has awarded a $12,000 grant to the Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville Foundation to benefit Pediatric Therapy and Mother Baby Care.
This grant will help to fund the purchase of therapy items that address the ever evolving and expanding needs of the children in the Madisonville community, as well as new bassinets that will replace aging units currently in use.
“The new Nara Bassinets are adjustable, making it easy for the mother to adjust it to the bedside allowing mother to infant closeness and bonding,” said Lydia Long, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services. “Not only do the bassinets promote closeness and comfort for the mother, but they also have features that ensure safety and ease the care of the baby for the nurse.”
In line with the WHAS Crusade for Children vision, funding from this grant will impact all children with special needs at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville. For Pediatric Therapy, covering wish list needs for all three disciplines – Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy – was especially important with plans for expansion on the horizon.
“The Trip Trapp Chair and Hensinger Head Support are vital for safety and supporting our children in good postural alignment as we expand our Speech Therapy services to include Feeding Therapy. The Relaxation Popcorn Tube will be a wonderful addition to begin stocking for our new sensory room,” said Marianna Ramsey, Director of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. “Having a safe area to explore movement, strengthen a child's core muscles, offering opportunities for increased proprioceptive input, and provide stimulation to the developing vestibular system are key components to any pediatric therapy practice.”
In total, the WHAS Crusade for Children Grant will provide funding for 13 new items.
