We’re proud to lead in the fight against cancer: The Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville is Kentucky’s longest-accredited community hospital cancer program. We are part of the Baptist Health Cancer Research Network, where we perform clinical trials to help find innovative new methods of cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Cancer Awareness Month Calendar
Most people alive today have either known someone who has battled cancer, or someone who is currently battling cancer. No person is immune from its effects. Because cancer impacts so many people directly and indirectly, it is critical to consistently promote cancer awareness. At the Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center, we utilize the national calendar that helps bring cancer awareness into the spotlight. Each month represents a specific type of cancer or important issue pertaining to cancer.

  • January - Cervical Cancer Awareness
  • February - Cancer Prevention
  • March - Colorectal (Lymphedema) Cancer Awareness, and Colorectal Cancer Screening
  • April - Cancer Control, and Head and Neck Cancer Awareness
  • May - Skin Cancer Awareness, and Skin Cancer Screening
  • June - Survivors Cancer Awareness
  • August - Leukemia, and Lymphoma Cancer Awareness
  • September - Prostate, and Childhood Ovarian Cancer Awareness, and Prostate Cancer Screening

The annual reports serve to provide helpful information regarding cancer care programs and resources at the Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center. The reports also introduce the care team and the different services being offered. Additionally, readers can learn more about the cancer registry, as well as the importance and benefits of the Commission on Cancer accreditation program.
