Donation Policy

Thank you for considering a donation to the Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center.  Below is a brief explanation of the three types of donations available:

1) Unrestricted - This donation is without restrictions and may be used for any asset or facility under the Baptist Health Deaconess umbrella as deemed appropriate by management.

An example of an unrestricted donation would be any dollar amount written to Baptist Health Deaconess with no request for where or how the money should be spent. 'In memory of' is perfectly acceptable and recognized as such.

2) Temporarily Restricted - A donation that is restricted by the donor with a stipulation that the resources/donation by used for a specific purpose and/or area.

An example would be a donation of $50 or $50,000 addressed to the Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center. This request restricts the use of these funds to the Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center and is the most frequent donation type. Further restriction can be designated by requesting the funds only be used for item or purpose such as artwork, staff training etc.

3) Permanently Restricted - A donation that is restricted by the donor with a stipulation that the resources/donation by maintained permanently, but the income derived from the donated asset may be expended. This is the least designated donation type and is typically used for large donations whose contributors prefer that the principal donation be maintained while any interest earned from the donation be expended.

Unless otherwise designated expenditures from any donation account should be for items that begin/expand programs or address unmet Foundation or community needs.
