Baptist Health Deaconess Foundation receives two grants to help youngest patients

1/6/2022

MADISONVILLE, KY (Jan 6, 2022) – Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville Foundation has been named the recipient of two grants intended to bolster services for its youngest patients and their families. The WHAS Crusade for Children Grant will provide $10,000 to fund the purchase of pediatric therapy care equipment; and the NICU Support Grant, awarded in the amount of $1,000 by the Little Giraffe Foundation, will help to improve the experience of having a child in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

“We are continuously looking to improve upon the level of care that we are able to provide our patients,” said President Robert Ramey, “but there is something even more rewarding when those enhancements are able to assist growing children to develop skills that they will utilize for the rest of their lives.”

Using these grants, paired with supplementary funding provided by the Baptist Health Deaconess Foundation, the list of equipment Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville was able to purchase is as follows:

  • For use in Pediatric Therapy Care:
    • Mobile Adult Mirror
    • Soft Play Steps & Slide
    • Maddacrawler Prone Support Walker
    • LadyBug Corner Chair w/ Headrest
    • Tumble Forms 2 Jettmobile w/ positioning wedges, child
    • Tumble Forms 2 Jettmobile w/ positioning wedges, adolescent
    • Wall-mounted folding parallel bars
  • For use in Mother & Baby Care:
    • Fast Flow Warmer – Rapid Fluid Infuser
    • Cuddle Cot
    • Glider Chair

Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Services Director Marianne Ramsey explained, “Each of these new tools will enable us to further assist the children that require our services and provide them with an even higher level of care. Take, for example, the wall-mounted folding parallel bars which give us a safe place to work on balance and gait activities or the Jettmobile which provides a fun way to work on proximal shoulder stability and upper extremity strength. These exercises and others that require the new equipment ultimately lead to better attention span, improved handwriting/fine motor skills, and more confidence in the child’s own performance, decreasing his/her overall fear of movement.”
